Vladimir Zelensky in On the day of the appointment of the new British Prime Minister, I already had a conversation with him. The Ukrainian leader congratulated Keir Starmer on his victory in the early parliamentary elections.

The elections in Great Britain took place on July 4. As of July 5, Keir Starmer had already officially become prime minister, had an audience with the king at Buckingham Palace and formed a new government.

What is known about the conversation between Zelensky and Starmer

I am glad to have a telephone conversation with Sir Keir Starmer on the day of his appointment as the new Prime Minister of Great Britain. “I congratulated him on his victory in the elections and wished him to successfully realize the expectations that the British people have with the new government,” Zelensky said.

He thanked Keir Starmer for his assurances that < strong>UK's support for Ukraine will remain fundamental.

The Ukrainian leader explained that he and the new British Prime Minister have already :

  • coordinated positions before the NATO summit in Washington and other international events,
  • discussed the continuation of bilateral cooperation, in particular preparation of an unprecedented 100-year agreement between Ukraine and Great Britain.

By the way, John Gealey became British Foreign Minister, and David Lemmy became Foreign Minister. They came to Ukraine in May 2024 and promised to maintain Britain's iron-clad commitment to supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia.
