Why Putin is making statements about negotiations: General Ben Goges explains

Putin's statements are aimed at those people in the West who cannot believe that Ukraine is capable of winning.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin does not intend to enter into negotiations for peace in Ukraine, and his statements are aimed at a Western audience – for people who do not believe in the victory of Ukraine.

This opinion was expressed on air “1+1” by the former commander of US troops in Europe, retired Lieutenant General Ben Godges.< /p>

“He [Russian President Putin] knows that there are people in the West who really want some kind of negotiations. And he says all this to give the impression that he is ready for negotiations. But if you read what he says, you will see that we are talking only about a ceasefire and only after Ukraine lays down its arms. This is unacceptable,” the American general emphasized.

According to him, Putin's statements are aimed at those people in the West who cannot believe that Ukraine is capable of winning.

“He “feeds” them such narratives about supposed readiness for negotiations. In fact, no, he is not ready [to negotiate], except on his own terms. This, it seems to me, would be a defeat for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” concluded Ben Godges.

Recall that earlier in the report of the Institute for the Study of War it was noted that the Russian president will not sit down at the negotiating table with Ukraine in the near future.
