The President of Slovakia refused to go to Ukraine: the reason was the halt in gas transit Nadezhda Batyuk

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has said he is refusing to go to Kyiv on an official visit. The decision is due to the fact that Ukraine has stopped the transit of Russian gas that Slovakia was receiving.

Pellegrini says that under the current circumstances, his trip to Ukraine is “not an option.” This was reported by 24 Kanal with reference to Aktuality.

What Pellegrini says about his trip to Ukraine

The Slovak president stated that by refusing to transit gas to Slovakia, the Ukrainian government and president have caused a fundamental threat to the country's energy security.

If I have to go there just to take a photo, and they tell me that not a single drop of oil or gas will go to Slovakia, then I really shouldn't go there. Let no one be offended by me, – Pellegrini said on air at STVR.

He also added that when the Ukrainian parliament adopts a law banning oil transportation to Slovakia, despite the existing contracts, his trip to Ukraine is “out of the question” for now.

It should be noted that in December, the President of Slovakia considered the possibility of visiting Ukraine. However, Pellegrini then said that the final decision would depend on the results of the negotiations on gas transit.
