Hungary gained access to part of the funds allocated for it in EU funds.
On the eve of the decisive summit on Ukraine, the European Union allowed unfreeze more than 10 billion euros of aid intended for Hungary. This is part of the funds frozen due to EU concerns about the rule of law in this country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, December 13, the European Commission confirmed that Hungary has taken appropriate measures.
“Hungary may begin to claim payments in the amount of about €10.2 billion,” the report says.
The European Commission noted that Hungarian authorities agreed on legislative initiatives to strengthen the independence of the judicial system.
At the same time, the EU will monitor how Hungary implements the measures introduced, reserving the right to block funds again if the conditions are not met.
It was probably no coincidence that the decision to give Hungary access to part of the funds allocated for it in EU funds was approved on the eve of the “Ukrainian” summit scheduled for December 14-15. On his agenda, in particular, is the allocation of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine – €50 billion over the next four years.
We recall that earlier the chief political adviser to the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban Balazs said that Hungary is ready to lift the veto on funding for Ukraine in exchange for the €30 billion that the EU blocked for Budapest.
