Will not be on Russia's side: India has an important task in BRICS Vera Konoval

The international alliance of countries with the largest developing economies is holding a new summit. It was attended by Indian Prime Minister Modi, who immediately showed his position on Putin's aggression in Ukraine.

However, India's role is primarily to confront China, whose goals look quite threatening. Artur Kharitonov, president of the public organization “Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine”, told Channel 24 in more detail about India's influence on BRICS.

India's role in BRICS

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the BRICS summit, which has been taking place in Kazan since October 22. During a meeting with Vladimir Putin at the summit, Modi called on him to end the war and establish peace as soon as possible.

Of course, the Russian dictator did not like Modi's speech. In particular, it was clear from his facial expressions that Putin was not happy with such a statement by the Indian Prime Minister.

India can certainly influence (this block is Channel 24), especially considering that BRICS plans to expand. That is, new groups of influence are being formed. India maintains the status quo – this is a way for it to maintain a balance in relations with autocracies. It “devours” all the inexpensive resources in Russia, it needs it, – noted Artur Kharitonov.

India's economy is developing very quickly. Therefore, they need a huge amount of resources for their industrialization, so cooperation with Russia is necessary for them. Moreover

“This is part of the Indian vision – how they see themselves in 10 years, how they will defeat China in everything. Because India has a major conflict, in particular a military one, with China. Beijing is laying claim to Indian territories,” Kharitonov emphasized.

At the same time, India is firmly tied to pro-democratic alliances. In particular, India is part of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD), which also includes Australia, the United States, and Japan.

“It is clear that India will not be on the side of either China or Russia. It is much closer to democracies than it may seem. So, a new faction will be created that will try to prevent Xi Jinping's global goals: the creation of an anti-sanctions club, the development of a military wing, which is promoted by Iran, etc.”, Kharitonenko concluded.

We will add that during the BRICS summit, Xi Jinping said that he is convinced that China's friendship with Russia will last “for generations.”
