US troops will not fight for Ukraine, Zelensky did not ask for this – White House

The United States does not intend to send American military personnel to Ukraine to participate in hostilities. But Ukraine needs to supply the necessary weapons to resist Russian aggression.

White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said this during a press briefing on March 5.

America does not plan to send troops to Ukraine

Kirby commented on French President Emmanuel Macron's statement Tuesday that Western leaders need to “not be cowards” on the issue of support for Ukraine.

— I will not analyze the words of President Macron… I can only speak on behalf of US President Joe Biden, the commander in chief. And the president was clear: we have been incredibly strong leaders on international support for Ukraine over the past two years. We need help from Congress so that this additional aid can pass so that we can continue our strong leadership and support in the coalition of more than 50 nations that the United States has brought together to support Ukraine, — he emphasized.

At the same time, the White House representative emphasized that earlier President Joe Biden directly indicated that there would be no US troops in Ukraine.

— He (Biden, — Ed.) was very clear from the very beginning of this war: there will be no US military units in Ukraine fighting in Ukraine. And you know what? President Zelensky didn’t ask for this. He only asks for means and opportunities. He never asked for foreign troops to fight for his country. He and his troops want to do this, but they need funds, and this is where we need to help them, — he summed up.

Macron's statement on Western troops in Ukraine

February 26, after a meeting of European leaders, French leader Emmanuel Macron said that nothing can be ruled out regarding the issue of sending troops of Western states to Ukraine. Then he also admitted that there is no consensus on this issue among European countries today.

These words of Macron caused a wave of statements from other European countries. For example, Germany pointed out the inadmissibility of the participation of its military in hostilities in Ukraine. Similar statements were made from a number of other allied states: Sweden, the Czech Republic and Poland reported that they were not considering the introduction of their troops into Ukraine.

At the same time, the head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry said that Macron’s words indicate a paradigm shift in support of Ukraine from Western countries. In turn, the head of the Estonian government, Kaya Kallas, emphasized that no means of providing assistance to Ukraine can be ruled out.
