President Volodymyr Zelensky said that although the Ukrainian military took control of part of the Kursk region in Russia, they did not try to seize factories or nuclear power plants, as Western media reported.
Zelensky said this during an interview with representatives of leading media in Northern European countries.
Ukraine did not plan to seize the Kursk NPP
According to the president, intelligence received information that Russia may be preparing to conduct an operation to destroy Ukraine's defensive lines in the east, namely in the Kharkiv region.

In response to this information, Ukraine informed its international partners about the need to destroy Russian military resources that threaten Ukrainian cities.
“We started fighting the Russians on the territory of the Kharkiv region. This helped stop them,” Zelensky said.
He also added that Putin publicly announced the creation of a buffer zone across the east and north of Ukraine. Therefore, it was decided to go to Kursk to create a buffer zone there.
Although Ukraine has achieved some success in this territory, information in the Western media about attempts to seize critical facilities, such as energy systems or nuclear power plants, is false.
“No, we didn’t even try,” the president added.
He stressed that Ukraine does not occupy critical infrastructure facilities, as Russia does.
“Russia thinks that they are very strong, but if we wanted to occupy their nuclear power plant, we could do it. But we never wanted that, because we understand what that means. That we will be the same as Russia, Zelensky emphasized.
The head of the country also noted that Ukraine does not occupy critical infrastructure, as Russia does, and recalled the captured Zaporizhzhya NPP.
We will add that Russia tried to accuse Ukraine of attempting to strike the Kursk NPP. Then the Kremlin propagandists said that Russian air defense allegedly shot down a French air bomb, which fell 5 km from the NPP.
