Scientists have identified more than 200 genes associated with a deadly form of brain cancer. This was reported in a study published in the journal Genome Biology.
The study involved experts of the British Sanger Institute and Addenbrooke’s hospital. Testing on laboratory mice has been found the link between the receptor for epidermal growth factor (EGFR) and about 200 genes. EGFR mutations can cause overexpression of cells and the appearance of cancer.
According to scientists, EGFR able to trigger glioblastoma, which is considered the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer. With appropriate disease life expectancy of patients is about 12-18 months. However, cells can cure cancer and tumors. This model was established on the basis of laboratory rodents, which was discovered a couple of hundred genes associated with EGFR and tumor-inducing. This will help to create a new means to fight disease.
Doctors are not yet sure which genes are most susceptible to mutations and can cause brain tumors. If it succeeds to find out that cancer treatment can be carried out point by interacting with certain genes.
