Oil rig in raqqa
USA agreed to buy Syrian oil with the Kurdish Alliance “of Democratic forces of Syria” (DSS, SDF). About it reports Reuters with reference to the statement of Damascus.
Syrian authorities have not said what exactly the company is trying to make a deal with the militants. The contract, which, presumably, has already signed part, called the theft of Syrian oil. Representatives of DDS and Washington did not comment to Reuters.
It is noted that the statement came several days after the hearings of the U.S. Senate Committee on foreign relations. There’s an American Senator Lindsey Graham and Secretary of state of the country Michael Pompeo mentioned the deal between DDS and Washington. Graham noted that the American side wants to upgrade the field on the North-East of the country.
“The deal took a little longer than we had hoped, and now we are finally in the process of its realization”, — said the Secretary of state. Neither Pompeo nor Graham did not specify with whom the Kurds have signed a contract.
That the United States decided to expand the two largest bases in Syria, it was reported in early February. It was noted that the Washington will continue to maintain its presence at the oil fields in the region. Despite statements by US President Donald trump on the withdrawal of troops from the oil fields, Washington strengthens its presence on the territories controlled by the people’s protection Units (YPG/PKK).
Syria produced about 380 thousand barrels of oil per day before the beginning of the armed conflict in 2011. After that Damascus has lost control over most of the fields are located on the East Bank of the Euphrates river, in the province of Deir ez-Zor. Now they are controlled by the militants.
