US President Joe Biden submitted a proposal at the end of May to ensure an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages. The UN Security Council approved Biden's plan.

14 countries voted to support the US President's document. And although the Russian representative abstained from voting, the Security Council resolution is considered adopted.

Israel and Hamas called for a ceasefire

The draft resolution states that the UN Security Council “welcomes the new ceasefire proposal announced on May 31, which Israel accepted, and calls on Hamas to also accept it.” The Security Council called on Israel and Hamas to implement the proposals of the resolution without delay or imposing any conditions.

US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield noted that the Security Council “sent a clear message to Hamas – to accept the ceasefire agreement.” She also added that the military clashes may already end, but this requires appropriate actions by Hamas.

Biden’s proposal has already been discussed with Israel – Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The US view remains unchanged regarding Israel's security with guarantees that the terrible events of October 7 will not be repeated.

“The Secretary emphasized that the United States and other world leaders will support the comprehensive proposal outlined by President Biden that will ensure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and a significant and lasting increase in humanitarian assistance to be distributed throughout Gaza,” noted in the United States.

Blinken also spoke about the importance of “diplomatic efforts to plan for the development of the situation in the post-conflict period.” This should ensure long-term peace, security and stability for Israelis and Palestinians.

At the same time, Blinken stressed the importance of preventing the conflict from spreading.

The war between Israel and Hamas: latest news

  • The other day it became known that that Israel could cease fire for 42 days to release hostages and exchange prisoners with Hamas. But this decision is criticized, because in this way Israel will have to release Hamas terrorists, in particular, one of the worst enemies who stood at the origins of the war.
  • We add that shortly before this Israel control of the Philadelphia Corridor on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. Through it, Hamas was supplied with weapons and ammunition, and a large number of smuggling passages are also located under it.
  • We add that Hamas from the Gaza Strip attacked Tel Aviv on May 26. And this was the first shelling in the last 4 months. In response, the Israel Defense Forces attacked Rafah, where enemy groups were located. As a result, 2 Palestinian commanders were killed. However, one of the Israeli attacks also hit a tent city in this city. The shelling killed 35 Palestinian civilians. Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv they say that they were targeting Hamas terrorists.
  • The Israeli army also entered the city of Rafah. In general, Israel's ground operation in southern Gaza has been going on for several weeks. This has already caused condemnation throughout the world.
