The President of Slovakia complains that because of Ukraine, NATO’s eastern flank will not have enough air defense systems.
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said that the transfer of several more air defense systems to Ukraine would mean that NATO countries will not have them enough
This is reported by the Slovak publication Aktuality.
Pellegrini welcomed the decision of US President Joe Biden to strengthen the protection of Ukrainian airspace. However, at the NATO summit in Washington, he complained about the possible consequences for the countries of the eastern wing of the Alliance.
“A few more air defense units for Ukraine means that NATO member countries will not have enough of them, and Slovakia will probably be left without effective air defense,” the Slovak president said.
Pellegrini plans to speak at the NATO summit about “what capabilities the defense industry of the United States and Europe has to implement plans for the common defense of the eastern wing of the Alliance in terms of air defense.”
At the same time, he confirmed that Bratislava will take part in the overall NATO package for Ukraine worth 40 billion dollars and will include these costs in its two percent spending on defense.
Slovakia also, according to Pellegrini, “supports Ukraine's maximum efforts to integrate into the European Union.”
Earlier, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico responded to the Russian attack on Okhmatdet.
