Political strategist Boris Tiesenhausen explained to Channel 24 why Zelensky should meet with Xi Jinping and how this could affect the end of the war. By the way, next month the Chinese leader will visit Russia for the BRICS summit.

Why it is important to change China's position

First of all, Xi Jinping is the main lifeline of the Russian economy. In addition, if India does not supply dual-use goods to the aggressor country, then the leader of China is a person who can influence Vladimir Putin and force him to end the war.

It is important to understand what Ukraine can offer China. There are tools that can be used to put pressure on our partners now, in particular, who have leverage to put pressure on the Chinese side. Apparently, this is how we need to act, so, of course, a meeting with Xi Jinping is necessary, Tiesenhausen said.

In the summer, China and Brazil developed a so-called “peace plan” to end the war in Ukraine. It includes 6 points and essentially proposes “freezing the conflict.” In addition, half of the points were made exclusively for Beijing, since it is interested in ensuring that logistical processes are not disrupted and that there are no problems with payment.

Zelensky was outraged that China and Brazil allowed themselves to put forward some “peace plans” without asking Kyiv. He called the plan “destructive.”

In addition, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun said that negotiations are the only way to end the war in Ukraine and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
