Recently, the media came into possession of documents that prove that there was an attack on the department and that they were aware of it.

By media information, back in September 2021, the chief head of the National Security Service, who was responsible for the technical security of other departments, handed over a report assessing the state of the digital infrastructure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It talked about that email, servers and at least some of the devices that were involved in user identification processes were compromised. In particular, administrator accounts with the highest level of access.

From the technical description it turns out that hackers could see letters, files, personal data of Foreign Ministry employees and much other information.

The author of the report also indicated that the cyber attack could be associated with the ART 28 groups, which are associated with the Russian GRU, and ART 29, which is associated with the FSB.

Not so long ago Journalists again asked Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto about the cyber attack two years ago, to which he first replied that he knew nothing about this situation. However, the journalists then told him that they had the report, and then Szijjártó expressed confidence that the competent authorities had done everything necessary to eliminate the threat. The head of the department also questioned whether the media managed to obtain the document through legal means.

According to the journalists, they checked their sources and the authenticity of the document and found out that it was not subject to legislation on the protection of classified documents.

It is reported that that this was a joint operation of the Ukrainian hacker group “BLACKJACK” with the cyber department of the SBU. They managed to dispose of more than 300 terabytes of data.
