Jaroslaw Kaczynski
Jaroslaw Kaczynski, chairman of Poland's ruling Law and Justice Party, called the ideology of the struggle for the rights of sexual minorities “a threat to Western civilization,” the news portal Onet reports.
“It is necessary to fight against this trend, which in our time is so attacking, – albeit reasonably. This does not mean that there is no need to fight, or to fight with particular softness, or without the willingness to use all available state funds, “Kaczynski said.
“I am in favor of actively confronting these threats to our civilization, because a passive reaction always leads to the same thing,” he added, citing the example of Ireland, which was previously a religious Catholic country, but now it is dominated by an LGBT ideology.
Poland is known for its rejection of non-traditional orientation: it ranks last in tolerance towards LGBT people among all countries of the European Union. On July 20 last year, in Bialystok, Poland, unidentified persons attacked a gay pride parade, and more than 30 people were detained. The country's authorities condemned the violent actions.
The population of Poland is deeply religious: according to polls conducted in 2011, more than 86 percent of the country's population is Catholic.
