On July 4, early parliamentary elections were held in the UK. The leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, became the country's new Prime Minister.
The new Prime Minister has already announced the composition of the government. Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated the Labour Party on their election victory and said he looked forward to working together.
Britain's Foreign and Defense Ministries are now headed by supporters of Ukraine
Keir Starmer reported on social media that:
- John Gili has become the country's new Defense Minister;
- David Lemmy has been appointed Foreign Secretary.

It is worth noting that these politicians are supporters of Ukraine. After all, literally in May 2024 they were in Ukraine.
Then the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak met with the shadow Secretary of State for Defense John Gealey and the shadow Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs David Lammy .
British politicians insisted that they came on a visit to testify to the Labor Party's support for Ukraine.
Labour's support for Ukraine is unwavering. There may be changes in the UK government this year, but the UK's commitment to supporting Ukraine will not change. Labor fully supports increased assistance to Ukraine from the UK this year and in subsequent years, Lammy and Gili were quoted on the website of the Office of the President.
Bloomberg also wrote then that Labor promised to maintain Britain's “iron” commitment to supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Then British politicians also met with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and outlined 5-point plan to support Ukraine. It is based on:
- military support,
- diplomatic contacts,< /li>
- fight against Russian aggression,
- industrial development,
- assistance in recovery.
The next Labor government's commitment to Ukraine will be ironclad, and European security will be our first priority external and defense priority,” Foreign Minister David Lemmy has already promised.
Moreover, politicians promised to help Kyiv create “a clear path for Ukraine’s membership in NATO.”
