The Russian MiG-31 fighter intercepted two strategic bombers of the US Air Force over the Bering Sea, RIA Novosti reports, citing a message from the Russian National Defense Control Center.

The defense department reported that two unknown air targets approached the state border. “To identify air targets and prevent violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, a MiG-31 fighter was taken into the air from the air defense forces of the Pacific Fleet,” the document says.

The crew found that strategic B-1B bombers had been sighted over the Bering Sea. The fighter escorted them until the moment they left the Russian border and returned to the base.

On September 14, a video was published of the interception of the US Air Force B-52H Stratofortress strategic bombers by the Russian Su-27 and Su-30 over the Black Sea.
