Russian armored personnel carriers (APCs) and infantry fighting vehicles (BMPs) will be protected by “beds” – additional protective screens in the form of gratings and armored shields. This is reported by Izvestia, citing sources in the military department and the military-industrial complex.
The kit includes two types of protection – armor plates, intended, in particular, to strengthen the sides and base of the tower, and lattice screens mounted around the perimeter. The total mass of the “beds” is about a ton. Installing or removing protective equipment will take less than an hour.
Combined screens protect combat vehicles from 7.62 mm and 12.6 mm calibers at distances from 400 meters. The use of “beds” protects from being hit by anti-tank grenades and missiles by about 50 percent.
The first armored vehicles with enhanced protection are supplied to the troops of the Southern and Western military districts. In particular, the 27th Guards Sevastopol Brigade received the corresponding BTR-82A.
In September “Zvezda” showed a duel between the Russian T-90M “Breakthrough” tank and the “Terminator” tank support combat vehicle (BMPT). According to the video, the tank hit the target with an Attack supersonic missile, and the BMPT with a 9M119M Invar missile. Both missiles hit the target, but in the case of the Terminator it happened a little faster.
