Dmitry Rogozin
The head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin called Venus the Russian planet, for which Russia has certain plans. Rogozin said this at the HeliRussia-2020 exhibition, TASS reports.
Rogozin told reporters that Russia is considering plans to launch a separate mission to Venus, and stressed that the country was the first to launch the device to the planet. The official noted that the mission is independent of another program, Venera-D, which Roscosmos is developing jointly with the United States. “We believe that Venus is a Russian planet, so there is nothing to lag behind,” said the head of Roscosmos.
Rogozin said that the program will have to wait until 2030 at the most. “Projects of missions on Venus are included in the draft of the unified state program of space activities in Russia for the period 2021-2030,” concluded Dmitry Rogozin.
On September 15, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that it was time to prioritize the study of Venus. Earlier, astronomers discovered mysterious traces of phosphine in the upper layers of the planet. The found compound is a waste product of living organisms.
