Outbreak of salmonellosis in America connected with red onion. This was stated by the US Centers for disease control and prevention (CDC), reports NBC DFW.
According to the CDC, at least 396 of Americans have been infected with a strain of Salmonella. Presumably, the source of the outbreak was with the red onions produced a California company Thomson International. CDC also warned of other types of onions that could be infected: “because of the way the cultivation and harvesting of that bow, other types, such as white, yellow or sweet, can also be infected”.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps that occur in the period from 6 hours to 6 days after contact with the bacteria. As of Saturday, 1 August, it was reported that 59 of 396 infected with a strain of Salmonella have been hospitalized. Lethal outcomes were not.
It is noted that the outbreak was first identified on July 10. The public health Agency of Canada also reports that the outbreak of intestinal infection which may be associated with the United States.
