Germany has decided to strengthen the fight against Holocaust denial. This writes Deutsche Welle, citing the international Alliance for Holocaust remembrance (IHRA), a member of which recently became Germany.
IHRA is engaged in the fight against Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism around the world. Now Berlin will join the Alliance “will focus on the fight against lies, misrepresentation, and trivialization of the Holocaust.” For this, the country has already established a group of experts who will develop a control strategy for Germany and other States.
As an example of Holocaust denial experts lead the rallies and demonstrations that took place in the period of the pandemic COVID-19. The participants spoke out against the strict quarantine measures, using Nazi insignia, the yellow star of David, and a striped shape resembling the inmates of concentration camps.
“If you think that all those who are making comparisons [of a pandemic with the Holocaust], just do not want to absolutize [last], then you become part of the censorship… It negates any debate about the nature of this crime,” the German cultural scientist Aleida Assmann. In her opinion, sometimes people can make such comparisons in order to better understand the nature of some events.
June 1 Munich authorities banned the wearing of the yellow star of David on the demonstrations against government measures to combat coronavirus. The protesters resorted to other Nazi symbols to Express their attitude to the actions of the government.
Moreover, the demonstrators also dressed in a striped shape resembling the inmates of concentration camps. They often hold signs that say “Mask free” or “Vaccination free”. They refer to the inscription “Work makes free” (Arbeit macht frei) from the gate of the former concentration camp Auschwitz.
