Donald Trump won the US election, but he will officially become president in January next year. Before that, he can have a conversation with Vladimir Putin. It will not be recorded, so Trump can “let it slip” a little.

The danger is that Trump can talk about his plans to end the war, which the Russian dictator can use in a certain way. Roman Sheremeta, an economics professor at Case Western University, told Channel 24 about this, noting that he can also expose details of the supply of military aid to Ukraine.

Why the conversation between Putin and Trump is dangerous for Ukraine

According to the professor of economics, Putin has direct access to Trump and can call him. However, Trump is not yet the US president, so he has more opportunities for such indirect conversations right now. When he becomes president, all conversations, since they are official, will be recorded.

I am sure that such a conversation will take place before Trump comes to the White House, – Sheremeta noted.

The danger is that Trump can tell Putin his vision of the end of the war. He can say that when official negotiations between Ukraine and Russia begin, the war will be stopped at the demarcation line that exists at that moment.

And then Putin simply goes for broke, throwing everything he has into a march for 2-3 weeks. He throws all his resources and hits all the front lines, despite the losses, because he knows that what he can seize before the negotiations begin is what he will keep, the economics professor explained.

In addition, Trump can tell in such a conversation how he plans to provide assistance to Ukraine and in what quantities. After all, he will definitely talk to the Russian dictator from a position of strength and can thus threaten him.

Any discussion in this case will lead to a weakening of the Ukrainian position in the negotiations and a strengthening of Russia's position. It would be best if Trump did not tell Putin anything at all about his plans to end the war and made such a proposal when he becomes president, Sheremeta added.

By the way, Putin said that he is ready to talk with Trump and can even call him himself. At the same time, Trump also said that he does not rule out the possibility of a phone call with the Russian dictator.
