The MP has already submitted the relevant bill to the Verkhovna Rada. Yaroslav Yurchyshyn explained why he came up with such an initiative and why Ukraine needs to raise the age limit for conscripts.

Why it is necessary to raise the age limit for conscripts

Yaroslav Yurchyshyn told a story that faced personally – his acquaintance, a retired military man with an officer a high-ranking rank, went to the military enlistment office to mobilize and officially join the service again.

A person is capable and healthy, has combat experience in Afghanistan and the ATO, and still has not forgotten how it is to lead a formation. However, it cannot be mobilized– a man over 65 years old, which is the age limit for conscription for representatives of senior officers.

Thus, according to the people's deputy, with all his desire, a retired officer cannot become necessary for staffing of the Armed Forces

strong> and the maximum that remains for him is to go into a voluntary formation of territorial defense. Therefore, Yurchyshyn decided to submit a draft law, which proposes to increase the age limit for military personnel, but not all.

Who will be affected by the increase in the age limit

The people's deputy explains that the increase in the age limit for conscription will concern only those who wish – those who voluntarily came to the territorial recruitment center and intend to defend the country.< /p>

At the same time, according to the draft law, older men will need to back up their will with the presence of combat experience(ATO, JFO, Afghanistan, etc.), as well as a successful medical examination. Only under such conditions will the TCC be able to offer a person to return to registration, sign a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and begin to carry out combat missions. with experience and quality sergeants and not only objectively useful. No one will mobilize the insolvent for health reasons or those who have no experience, – explains the people's deputy.

Yurchyshyn convinces that military units are only interested in high-quality personnel, especially when it comes to people who have crossed the age limit for conscription.

The initiator of the bill notes that now we have a whole layer soldiers over 60, as well as senior officers over 65 years old. They are really ready to help on their own or teach others from their own experience.

According to the People's Deputy, they do not need to be retrained or resorted to special psychological support, because the high motivation of these soldiers, first of all, is evidenced by their own desire to be useful in the Armed Forces.

I think you should not lose with this question. This topic is more relevant now than ever. The initiative to raise the age limit (I emphasize: only for those who go for it voluntarily) is beneficial on both sides. Those who want to defend Ukraine will get an official job and the opportunity to be useful to the army, and the recruitment centers, in turn, will have additional personnel,” the MP summed up.
