As Katkov noted, the Swedish government took an interesting step. They can't just write that they are going to transfer these fighters to Ukraine. They specifically indicate that they are preparing for the possible transfer of these aircraft if such a decision is made.

Why is that? This is supposedly a Swedish aircraft. But no. There are a huge number of components of American origin. Even the engine is a localized version of the American one. Here the consent of the United States is needed, – Katkov noted.

In addition, there is another problem. Now Ukraine is on the way to receiving F-16 fighters. The first batch has already arrived, but there will be more. In the conditions of a full-scale war, it is difficult to master a new Western machine. At the same time, by the end of 2024, our country must also receive French Mirаge 2000-5. And it would be extremely difficult to master the Gripen at the same time.

However, it is quite possible that over time Ukraine will begin working on the transfer of Gripen.

Zelensky said that as of now there is a need for 128 F-16 fighters. We will not receive that much even in terms of promises from our partners. It is also worth considering that some of the F-16 aircraft will be used for spare parts. Therefore, the Gripen will be an excellent addition. We have no other options, Katkov emphasized.
