The EU will consider the possibility of introducing sanctions against Belarus. This was stated by the foreign Minister of Poland Jacek Czaputowicz, RIA Novosti reported.
“It depends on the situation, the actions of Belarusian authorities,” he predicted, adding that Warsaw would not allow such a development. Czaputowicz noted that the situation “can go too far.”
Earlier, Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki has proposed an emergency EU summit on the situation in Belarus, namely on the rigid suppression of protests in the country.
Mass protests in Minsk and other Belarusian cities began after the completion of voting at the election of the President of the Republic, the final day, which took place on 9 August. According to the interim data of the CEC, the acting head of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko scores more than 81 percent of the vote, the main opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovski just 8 per cent. Citizens do not believe in the victory of Lukashenko, who is running for a sixth term and has been ruled since 1994.
