Budapest is already "traditional" opposes military aid to Kyiv.
Hungary will not participate in NATO’s long-term plan to help Ukraine and I think this idea is “crazy.”
This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, reports Reuters.
“Hungary will remain aside from NATO's crazy plan (we are talking about a fund for Ukraine — Ed.), despite all the pressure,” Szijjártó noted.
Previously, Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs, responding to the NATO initiative last month, said that Budapest would not support any NATO proposals that “could bring the Alliance closer to war or transfer it from a defensive coalition to an offensive one.”
The US envoy to Hungary earlier said that NATO allies are warning Hungary about the dangers of its “close and expansive” relationship with Russia, and if this is Budapest’s political choice, then NATO countries “will have to decide how best to protect interests security”.
Recall that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during his visit to Kyiv, announced the initiative to create a special Fund for financial support of Ukrainian defense in the amount of 100 billion euros.
Previously, Peter Szijjártó said that the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine would mean the beginning of the third world war. And recently, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban spoke cynically about the war in Ukraine and stunned with a statement about Western troops.
