The priest calls not to be superstitious and not to believe Russian fakes.
After the transition to the new (New Julian) calendar, believers of the OCU and The UGCC now celebrates Christmas on December 25, and Epiphany, respectively, on the 6th, and not on January 19. At the same time, some fans of the UOC-MP, who adhere to the Julian calendar, argue that their holidays are more correct. As one of the arguments, they use the story that the Jordan River in Israel supposedly turns its course on January 19
Is this so, explained priest and chaplain of the OCU Roman Grischuk on his Facebook.
He recalled that, despite the desert terrain and hot climate, Israel is a powerful agricultural country.
“Tubes with water come to every tree and bush! And all this is due to the waters of the Jordan. The waters of the Jordan are heavily used for irrigation in Israel, so in the summer in the lower reaches the river almost dries up…
Each individual kibbutz has a powerful water intake station. And depending on when certain stations are turned on, the almost stagnant water of the Jordan shifts in the direction of selection”,” the priest explained.
According to the chaplain, the citizens of Israel and Jordan are quite calm about such a “change” in the direction of the current, which has its own earthly reason.
“And this current in the lowlands changes the direction of movement many times a year! Precisely for the above reasons! For example, last year 2023, January 6 the waters of the Jordan “flowed” in the opposite direction, and on January 19, as usual,” noted Roman Grischuk.
He recalled that Christians actually believe that when Jesus Christ was baptized in the Jordan, the river bed then turned in the opposite direction. However, he urges not to be superstitious and not to believe Russian fakes.
“And leave Moscow’s provocations and arguments alone. They are from Moscow, to be provocations. All these arguments are simply designed to prevent the mental liberation of Ukrainians from Russian occupation. The hierarchs themselves of both Constantinople and Jerusalem are calm belong to different calendars and dates of consecration. and often consecrate water together,” the OCU priest summed up.
It was previously reported that in May 2023, the OCU decided to switch to a new calendar. In February 2023, a similar decision was made by the UGCC.
