Denmark decided to kill all minks due to mutated coronavirus

In Denmark, they decided to destroy all minks on fur farms to prevent the spread of the mutated coronavirus. This was stated by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at a press conference in the office, reports TASS.

“All minks in Denmark must be killed,” the Prime Minister said. Frederiksen took part in the online press conference, as she is in self-isolation after meeting with the Minister of Justice, Nick Haekkerup, who was diagnosed with the coronavirus.

According to the prime minister, a mutated infection has been found in minks, which spreads to humans and weakens the ability to form antibodies. Already 12 people have been registered with the mutated virus. Frederiksen warned that a new mutation of the coronavirus could spread not only throughout the country, but also around the world.

The Armed Forces and the Danish Emergency Management Agency will help farmers destroy minks. Also, the state will reimburse farmers for losses in the amount of 2.3-2.8 billion Danish kroner (362-441 million dollars).

The coronavirus has spread to 1,139 mink farms in Denmark, particularly in North Jutland.

Previously, scientists have named animals that can become infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and be its carriers. Many mammals examined have the potential to become infected, including domestic cats, dogs, minks, lions, tigers, and ferrets and macaques.

The number of cases of coronavirus infection in Denmark has exceeded 50 thousand.
