Elon Musk, who works in the White House as a special government employee, cannot do anything without the approval of the Trump administration. His goal in office is to reduce the size of the American government.

This is how the US President outlined the rights and responsibilities of the billionaire who heads the Department of Government Efficiency. This was reported by Channel 24 with reference to CNN.

Musk is not paid for his position as a special government employee

Even though Musk can't do anything without approval, Trump noted that the White House may listen to the opinion of the newly minted civil servant.

Elon cannot and will not do anything without our approval. And we will give him approval if necessary. Where it is not practical, we will not, Trump said.

The White House says Musk is officially working as a special government employee, and is not a volunteer or full-time federal employee.

“A special government employee is “anyone who works or is required to work for the government for 130 days or less in a 365-day period.” Musk is not being paid, according to a person familiar with his work,” CNN notes.

Musk's team finds “a huge amount of bad stuff”

Musk's department has full access to the government's pay system, as well as the ability to fire people he and the administration deem worthy “bad.”

He only has the power to let go of people he doesn't think are useful if we agree with him, and only if we agree with him. He's a very talented guy in terms of management and spending, and we've put him in charge of seeing what he can do with certain groups and certain numbers,” Trump said.

That said, if Musk has a conflict of interest during the government cuts, he won't be allowed “to get anywhere near it.”

As Trump says, the department finds “a lot of really bad stuff,” including waste, fraud, and abuse.
