Beavers chose a drainage canal for construction.

In the Czech Republic, on the territory of the Brdy protected landscape, beavers built a dam in two days, which local authorities had been coordinating for seven years, saving the local administration $1.2 million. The animals did not use any design documentation and did everything completely free of charge.

Several Czech publications reported this and distributed a video from the scene, including Novinky.сz, as well as money.pl.

Thus, thanks to the rodents, a land restoration project that local authorities had been preparing for years was implemented.

The dams built by the animals allowed the area to become muddy again, saving up to 30 million crowns (1.2 million dollars), Czech journalists from the CT24 channel report.

The local administration already had permission to revitalize this area, but the animals did everything much faster and without additional costs.

According to zoologist Jiří Vlček, a beaver can build a dam in just one or two nights, while people need to spend a lot of time getting the necessary permits and finding funding before construction even begins.

The site for the dam's construction was a drainage canal created by the military on a former training ground. Back in 2018, the authorities planned to restore the Klabava River, but now this work is no longer needed.

“The military and state forests, as well as the Vltava Water Authority, were discussing projects and land ownership, and the beaver simply beat them to it. This allowed us to save – at today's prices – as much as 30 million crowns,” said the director of the reserve, Bohumil Fischer.

Let us recall that beavers can not only build a dam, but also cause harm. For example, the rodents left four settlements in the aggressor country, Russia, without power supply.
