Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, who was shot the day before after a retreat government, is in the intensive care unit, his condition is serious.
This was announced at a briefing on Fico’s health on the morning of Thursday, May 16, by the director of the Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica, Miriam Lapunikova, reports aktuality.sk.
According to her, he is stabilized, but very serious. “So he will be in the intensive care unit,” she said, noting that Robert Fico suffered multiple gunshot wounds, the consequences of which will lead to recovery.

In the afternoon, the Prime Minister was transported by air ambulance to the emergency room at Roosevelt Hospital, where he was treated, given a CT scan, and then transported to the operating room for a five-hour operation involving two – surgical and traumatology – teams,” said Lapunikova.
She added that the Prime Minister is now being treated by a team of doctors.
Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak said at the same briefing that doctors were able to stabilize Fico's condition overnight, and procedures are now being carried out to further improve his condition.
“Unfortunately, the condition remains very serious due to the complex nature of the injuries, but we all want to firmly believe that we will be able to cope with the situation,” he said.
The Minister thanked the entire team of doctors, nurses and orderlies, who, according to him, fought all evening and all night for the life of the Prime Minister and at this moment managed to stabilize the situation.
