Almost $20,000 confiscated: Central MSEK official detained for taking bribe

The Deputy Chief Physician of the State Institution Central Medical and Social Expertise Commission of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine was detained while receiving an illegal benefit for assistance in obtaining a disability group.

The Office of the Prosecutor General and the National Police reported this.

According to the investigation, the deputy head physician promised a Ukrainian citizen, who is liable for military service, to help him obtain Group II disability status. The woman demanded two thousand dollars for such a service.

Obtaining disability status would provide grounds for removing the man from military registration.

The MSEK official convinced the man that this was not the first time she had resolved such “issues” and knew how to do it. This was confirmed during the investigation.

During the searches, almost 20 thousand dollars, documents for registration of disability, personal files, medical documentation and other evidence of criminal activity were seized from the woman.

The woman was informed of suspicion of abuse of influence (part 3, article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.

It should be noted that the Asset Search and Management Agency (ARMA) has already found the first assets of five defendants in cases of forgery of medical certificates.

According to the head of ARMA Elena Duma, a large number of the identified assets were acquired by the defendants already during the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine .
