In the United States, it is planned to modernize some models of the aviation fleet. We are talking about “obsolete Doomsday planes.”

The United States has been planning since the 1970s to upgrade Doomsday Planes to survive a nuclear war. Currently, there is a struggle between companies that can work on its development for the opportunity to take part in the project.

Only one company is publicly bidding for the contract

Boeing has been excluded from the competition to develop a successor to the E-4B Nightwatch. This information was confirmed. This decision was truly unexpected.

Private defense contractor Sierra Nevada Corp will remain the only company publicly bidding for the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) contract.

What is a “Doomsday Plane”?

This is an airborne command post (ACP) designed to control US military forces in the event of nuclear war. This aircraft can withstand a nuclear explosion thanks to its reinforced design. It is equipped with electromagnetic pulse (EMP) protection, protecting it from the effects of radioactive radiation. In addition, this type of aircraft is equipped with modern means of communication, allowing it to maintain contact with different parts of the world. It is also equipped with weapons control systems that can control air and ground forces.

The United States plans to allocate $889 million in 2024 to continue development of the new SAOC. The state's air force plans to spend $8.3 billion on this program by 2028.

The US Air Force operates four E-4B aircraft, one of which is constantly ready for flight. These aircraft were created on the basis of Boeing 747-200 airliners. Due to their gradual aging, the US Air Force plans to retire them in the early 2030s.

US President joked about nuclear weapons with plant workers

  • Biden noted that American nuclear weapons “could blow up the whole world.” True, in what context the US President decided to recall nuclear weapons is unknown.
  • This happened during his visit to the CS Wind plant in Pueblo, South Korea. He was talking with employees and decided to joke.
  • The incident at the plant has raised public concerns, especially as Biden intends to run for re-election. Yes, a significant portion of voters have expressed concerns about his age and overall effectiveness as president.
