Russia poses a threat to NATO countries, because it constantly threatens new attacks. The Czech Republic proposed developing a joint strategy regarding this state.

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky announced a list of steps that the Alliance should take in relations with Russia. He stated this at a discussion in the Czech Senate.

Forget about the “cautious approach”

The head of the Czech Foreign Ministry expressed confidence that the Alliance must “affirm a new strategic approach to Russia.” He said that there were several steps that needed to be taken and explained what he meant.

So, first of all, we need to stop Western rhetoric of fear of escalation. After all, it is Russia, not us, that has crossed all the “red lines” and is not holding back at anything. And after the new inauguration, Putin feels even more powerful,” Lipavsky said.

He called on allies to “put caution to the wind.” Instead, the minister proposes to approve a new, tougher strategy to counter Russian aggression. According to him, it should include the complete lifting of restrictions on the use of Western weapons against Russia. Lipavsky emphasized that Ukraine should not fight with one hand behind its back.

Ukraine must have the right to resist the barbaric invasion of Russia even on Russian territory, – explained the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, political determination must be accompanied by the necessary technical capabilities, and the defense industry of Western countries must mobilize efforts to increase production. The minister explained that it is necessary to remove financial and banking barriers that prevent the acceleration of the war economy.

Another task for the West is to strengthen its ability to resist hybrid warfare and its economic resilience. Lipavsky said that since Russia has switched to war economy, the West should do the same.

Czech minister on Ukraine's membership in NATO

  • Already in July 2024, the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance will meet at a summit in Washington. During the meeting, the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO will obviously be raised.
  • Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky also spoke about this. The head of the country's Foreign Ministry said that every step NATO takes in support of Ukraine will help contain “Russian imperialism.” However, in his opinion, discussions regarding the full membership of our state in the Alliance should wait. joining NATO. According to him, now it is worth focusing on the more important needs of our state.
