Scientists from Singapore have developed a mask that can identify symptoms indicative of coronavirus infection. Reported by The Straits Times.
Sensors are installed in the mask that collect information about various vital signs of a person such as pulse, body temperature, pressure and oxygen level. Every half hour, the sensors transmit health data to a special application in the mobile phone so that doctors can assess the patient's condition and its changes. It is noted that the sensors themselves can be washed together with protective equipment and even rearranged from one mask to another.
The developers of the technology said that the chips in the personal protective equipment are covered with a special material that is sensitive to the information received and at the same time it is moisture resistant. The mask is currently priced at just over $ 36, but could drop to $ 14.6 if mass produced.
Earlier, American scientists have proven that surgical masks and accessories made of a composite material are the best means of protection against coronavirus. Special surgical masks, N95 masks and protective accessories made of combined materials such as cotton and synthetics have shown the highest degree of effectiveness. However, despite the high protection of N95 masks, the researchers say that due to the built-in valve, they may not be the safest.
