During a massive Russian missile attack on March 9, the invaders damaged the last line that fed the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. 49 states have already applied to the IAEA Board of Directors with an immediate application.

This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine. Denys Shmyhal stressed that while there are occupiers at the Zaporozhye NPP, the risks will remain high.

Nuclear terrorism and blackmailing Russia must be stopped

The risks at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant will remain high as long as the Russian military and Rosatom personnel are at the plant. Russia must leave the ZNPP,” Shmyhal stressed.

Night attacks by Russia on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, as a result of which the ZNPP was de-energized for the sixth time during the full-scale war, are yet another confirmation of this. 49 states and Euratom have applied to the IAEA Board of Directors today.

The countries also call for an end to the shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities and note the importance of the resumption of control by our state over all nuclear facilities within internationally recognized borders. After all, this will ensure their safety and protected work.

In addition, international delegations insist on bringing Russia to justice for its repeated neglect of the principles of nuclear safety. Ukraine is grateful to partners for practical steps and we call for further sanctions.

Nuclear terrorism and blackmailing Russia must be stopped,” the prime minister emphasized.

The Russians completely de-energized the Zaporizhzhya NPP

On the night of March 9, the invaders once again attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure facilities. As a result of the shelling, the last line that fed the ZNPP was damaged.

Energy Minister German Galushchenko announced this. “The Russians are putting the world on the brink of a nuclear catastrophe. And this is the day after negotiations with the UN on the demilitarization of the ZNPP,” the official said.

Now the station is de-energized and went into blackout mode for the sixth time during the occupation. The 5th and 6th power units are transferred to a cold state, 18 diesel generators are turned on to supply the ZNPP's own needs.

Fuel for their work remains for 10 days. The countdown has begun, – Energoatom noted.

They also added that if it is impossible to resume the external power supply to the station during this time, an accident with radiation consequences for the whole world may occur.
