Zelensky responded to criticism of the fight against corruption in Ukraine/Office of the President

Criticism on the fight against corruption cannot interfere with the movement of Ukraine to the European Union. Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that our anti-corruption infrastructure is more developed than in many EU member states.

In Denmark, questions arise regarding the anti-corruption infrastructure of Ukraine, because the inhabitants of this country do not fully know what happened in our country before the war and what is happening now. The president said this during an interview with the Danish media, channel 24 reports.

I think that such a developed infrastructure that works both during the war and before the war, which Ukraine, is absent in many EU countries,” Zelensky said.

He gave several examples. In particular, the work of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, as well as the launch in September 2019 of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court.

The scandalous decision of the Constitutional Court

Zelensky recalled the decision of the Constitutional Court, which declared unconstitutional criminal liability for lying in declarations.

However, the president stressed that this issue had been resolved. According to him, there was a political “war” within the state, but the anti-corruption agencies started working again, they were given back all their powers.

The anti-corruption infrastructure works

Zelensky noted that the anti-corruption infrastructure is fully operational in Ukraine. When people talk about law enforcement or other reform, they should know that a lot has already been done.

The President noted that 2 main laws on judicial reform in Ukraine have been adopted. However, he acknowledged that there are “slow things” regarding the selection of judges. In particular, this is due to the composition of the commissions that they cannot work normally, because the war has begun.

Denmark's “reproaches” on corruption in Ukraine

Earlier, Denmark opposed Ukraine's membership in EU. They stated that the state is at a “very early stage” of readiness to assume these obligations.

Denmark argued that Ukraine does not meet the criteria for the stability of institutions that guarantee democracy and the rule of law. They advised Kyiv to improve its legislative and institutional framework.
