When Russia attacked, outside of Kyiv, Vladimir Zelensky was waiting for a protected bunker, equipped to withstand a long siege. However, the President refused to go there.

Moreover, on the second night after the invasion, when Ukrainian troops fought the Russians in the nearby streets, Zelenskiy went to the courtyard and filmed a video message on his phone.

In his address, Zelensky stressed that “we are all here.” He showed officials standing nearby: Andriy Yermak, Denis Shmyhal, Mikhail Podolyak and David Arakhamia.

Zelensky's address of February 25:

In fact, Zelensky was somewhat alarmed.

Journalists write that the feeling of unity that Zelensky predicted was somewhat misleading then. The president was alarmed by the number of officials and even the military who had fled.

If politicians needed time to evacuate their families, Zelensky, of course, allowed it. However, later he asked them to return to their posts. Most did so.
