Zelensky instructed to develop exam for obtaining citizenship of Ukraine

Zelensky instructed the government to develop an exam for obtaining citizenship of Ukraine/Office of the President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to a petition to introduce a mandatory exam for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. The initiators asked that the exam include language and history tests.

Zelensky instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmygal to take care of this, since the issue needs legislative regulation.

Zelensky's response

The President noted in his response that the government ensures the implementation of a policy on education and science, the comprehensive development and functioning of the state language in all spheres of public life.

< p class="bloquote cke-markup"> I turned to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal with a request to comprehensively work out the issue raised in the electronic petition, Zelensky said.

What the exam might look like

The initiator of the petition, Vitaly Kapustyan, presented it on May 23. He asks the head of state to introduce a mandatory examination for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. 26,578 people signed the initiative.

The government has not yet commented on whether this issue was considered. However, the author requested that candidates demonstrate their respect and genuine interest in acquiring Ukrainian citizenship. According to Kapustyan, the exam should include the study of the national anthem, tests in the Ukrainian language, the history of Ukraine, knowledge of the Constitution.

Note that now, in order to obtain citizenship, a person must submit an application and a package of documents.
