Zaporozhye NPP is operating despite the fact that the Russian military occupied the nuclear plant, where Ukrainian personnel remained. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, expressed admiration for the work of Ukrainian workers in extremely difficult conditions.
Grossi said that the Ukrainians care about ZNPP
Rafael Grossi, after the visit of the IAEA to the ZNPP, said that the nuclear power plant was functioning. According to him, “there are professional relations” between the experts.
Grossi noted that at ZNPP “all experts in the nuclear field know what they are doing and what they are talking about.”
Note . The Zaporozhye NPP is operated by the Ukrainian state enterprise Energoatom. At the same time, Russia illegally deployed Rosatom workers to the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
The head of the IAEA stressed that the workers at the Zaporizhzhya NPP “are people and they have their own points of view about the war that affects them and their families.”

He expressed admiration for the Ukrainian experts “that they continue to work under such conditions and the way they act.” Grossi stressed that the Ukrainians take care of the ZNPP and “do a great job”.
The head of the IAEA added that “there is tension at the Zaporozhye NPP due to the war”.
The visit of the IAEA mission to the ZNPP : what is known
- Russia occupied the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which began shelling in August. Due to the provocation of the occupiers, the Zaporizhzhya NPP was de-energized for the first time.
- The International Atomic Energy Agency, following the calls of Ukraine, decided to visit the Zaporozhye NPP to assess the situation at the nuclear power plant.
- IAEA mission led by Grossi arrived at ZNPP on 1 September. Some representatives will stay at ZNPP until 3 September. At the same time, Rafael Grossi said during the briefing that the IAEA mission should be constantly at the ZNPP.
- Before that, Grossi said that the physical integrity of the ZNPP had been violated several times. At the same time, the head of the IAEA did not say who exactly violated it.
