Yermak discussed with influential European officials and diplomats how to further put pressure on Russia

Yermak discussed sanctions against Russia/OP

Andrey Yermak discussed with influential European officials and diplomats restrictions on the Kremlin. The Head of the Office of the President explained that sanctions should be long-term and systemic.

The conversation took place on May 12, the 78th day of the full-scale war that Russia launched against Ukraine. Yermak explained that the Kremlin would not give up its aggressive plans just because of the decline in the living standards of people.

Yermak explained what sanctions should be imposed against Moscow

It is necessary to make sure that the financial system (Russia – Channel 24) cannot cope with this burden, so that Russian industry does not have the technical capabilities, technologies and materials for the production of weapons of war. Therefore, the sanctions must be long-term,” Yermak explained.

The politician also recalled the Action Plan to strengthen sanctions against Russia, which was developed by the Yermak-McFaul group. It talks about:

  • a complete embargo on Russian energy resources, because it is a fundamental source of financing for the military machine of Moscow;
  • the expansion of transport and insurance sanctions;
  • shutdown of all Russian financial institutions from the global system

“It is very important to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and exclude it from the FATF, expand personal sanctions against the vast majority of Russian officials, oligarchs and propagandists. Further sanctions against Russian state enterprises are also needed,” Andrey Yermak explained.

Sanctions are needed against countries that help Putin circumvent restrictions

Secondary sanctions should be imposed against states, individuals or legal entities that contribute to Russia's aggression or help it circumvent sanctions, the message says.

Yermak also recalled the Roadmap containing the EU strategy for implementing energy sanctions. Explained:

  • talks about a phased ban on Russian gas to EU countries to reduce the shock to European economies;
  • welcomes the decision of the European Commission to introduce a complete ban on the import of all Russian oil, because it is very important.

Also, answering a question about EU support for Ukraine, Andriy Yermak said that Ukraine still needs weapons and the EU countries know which one. At the same time, he added that there is no reliable security system in Europe and the world.

And now one of the main issues is the discussion of future clear security guarantees for Ukraine,” Yermak explained.

After all, our state would like to see more countries of the world among the guarantors.

According to him, the experts will offer clear mechanisms to direct confiscated Russian assets, funds in escrow accounts, etc.:

  • the needs of affected citizens;
  • or the restoration of Ukraine's infrastructure facilities;
  • Russian assets and funds in escrow accounts were confiscated, etc.

Sanctions against Russia in brief

  • May 12 the intelligence department told how Roskosmos circumvents international sanctions. In particular, it conducts settlements in foreign currency, reduces the amount of foreign currency on the accounts of banks that have been sanctioned, opens accounts with subsidiaries of foreign banks or Russian institutions that are not subject to sanctions and other measures.
  • As of May 12, it is known that the European Union plans to consider the 6th package of sanctions against Russia on May 16. Previously, they wrote that there would be a gas embargo.
  • However, already on May 10, the media wrote that Europe was not ready to block Russian oil supplies to third countries. Therefore, there will be no radical step in the 6th package of sanctions.
