In the first game, everything was decided by the eighth rally, in which the Ukrainian gave her serve to her opponent and she took the lead 1:0 in sets. In the second game, the tennis players staged a parade of mistakes and breaks — Gracheva took Dayana’s serve four times, and the Ukrainian — five.
So the match moved to the third set — In it, both tennis players made significantly fewer mistakes, having exchanged breaks twice. And the result of the meeting was determined by tiebreaker — 10:5 for the Ukrainian.
This was the second head-to-head meeting of the athletes. In January 2024, Dayana beat Varvara at the same stage at the Australian Open. The Ukrainian's next opponent will be Croatian Donna Vekic.
On the third day at Wimbledon, in addition to Yastremskaya, the second round matches were also played by Yulia Starodubtseva — she won the first set against Australian Lulu Radovcic, but lost the next two — 6:4, 3:6, 2:6.
