Tennis player Dayana Yastremskayathe third Ukrainian to make it past the opening round of the tennis competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

She won a hard-fought victory over Brazilian Laura Pigossi in three sets — 3:6, 7:5, 6:0.

The tennis players spent exactly 2 hours on the court, during which Dayana had significantly more winners than her opponent (27:9), however, she made as many as 39 unforced errors, which is 20 more than her opponent.

At the start of the match, the opponents exchanged breaks, after which Dayana took the lead. However, the Brazilian managed to take two consecutive serves from the Ukrainian and close the set with a score of 6:3.

The second set was an equal fight on the court. In the tenth game, Pigossi could have closed the match in case of a break, but Dayana managed to equalize and then avoid a tie-break. The Ukrainian took her opponent's serve and took the game to another set.

In the decisive set, Yastremska was already in complete control of the events on the court, taking three of her opponent's serves, winning the game dry in 33 minutes and advancing to the next round.

Dajana Yastremska's next opponent will be Colombian Camila Osorio, who unexpectedly beat Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in the first round. This will be the first meeting between the tennis players.

Earlier, Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk overcame the first round of the tennis competition at the 2024 Olympics. Svitolina crushed Japan's No. 1 Moyuka Uchijima, and Kostyuk defeated Wimbledon quarterfinalist Lulu Sun.

Another Ukrainian, Angelina Kalinina, has withdrawn from the 2024 Olympic tennis competition due to a cold.
