Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska advanced to the second round of the Grand Slam tennis tournament — Wimbledon 2024.
In two sets, she defeated the Argentine tennis player of Ukrainian origin Nadia Podoroska with a score of 6:1, 7:6 (7:1).

The tennis players spent 1 hour and 36 minutes on the court, during which Yastremska made four aces, made the same number of double faults and saved three of five break points.

Dayana closed the first set with two breaks in 25 minutes. But the second set unfolded according to a different scenario. The Ukrainian took two of her opponent's serves in a row and was leading 3:0, but Podoroska immediately made a break and reduced the gap.
With the score 4:3 in Dayana's favor, the Argentinean was injured and subsequently took a medical timeout. After returning to the court, Nadya won two games in a row and took the lead. However, Yastremska managed to transfer the game to a tiebreak, where she eventually won a crushing victory — 7:1.
Yastremska's next opponent at Wimbledon will be Varvara Gracheva, who plays for France. In the first round, she beat another Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko in two sets — 6:3, 6:1.
Recall that eight Ukrainian tennis players qualified for the main draw of singles at Wimbledon 2024 for the first time, which is a national record.
