Yastremska starts Hobart tournament with comeback win, Kalinina withdraws

Ukrainian Dajana Yastremska began her performance at the WTA 250 tournament in Hobart (Australia) with a victory.

Seed number one, she won a hard-fought victory over American of Ukrainian descent Katie Volynets in three sets — 2:6, 6:4, 6:1.

The tennis players spent 2 hours on the court, during which Yastremska served twice and saved three of her opponent's eight break points.

In the first set, Dayana made two breaks, but gave up all her serves to her opponent and lost 2:6.

Already in the next game, the Ukrainian took the lead 4:1. Later, Volynets managed to reduce the gap to one game, after which Yastremska was able to realize the set point on the fourth attempt.

In the decisive set, Dayana crushed her opponent with two breaks and closed the match.

The Ukrainian's next opponent will be American Ann Lee, who is ranked 91st in the WTA.

Angelina Kalinina, who ended up on the other side of the draw, was also supposed to compete at the tournament in Hobart. However, she withdrew before the first round due to a gastrointestinal illness.

Another Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk suffered a defeat in the opening round of the WTA 500 tournament in Adelaide. Thus, the first racket of Ukraine lost the second match in a row before the start of the Australian Open-2024.
