Xiaomi has invented a “horned” smartphone

Xiaomi has patented a smartphone with retractable camera elements. The corresponding document was published by Let's Go Digital.

The device, invented by the company's engineers, differs from other smartphones by two “horns” falling out of the upper end of the case. They contain cameras – both front and main. According to journalists, in this way the company can “unload” the display of the device from unnecessary elements and release a device with an almost completely frameless screen.

The description of the patented gadget says that the sliding elements are located inside the body of the device by default, and slide out when necessary – during the launch of the camera application. It also follows from the document that the device has buttons for turning on and off the smartphone, volume control, stereo speaker, microphone and USB-C port. The patent application was filed with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) at the end of 2019 and published on September 8.

According to the journalists of the publication, Xiaomi has patented one of the prototypes of a frameless smartphone, which is unlikely to be released into mass production. The material says that the “horned” design of the cameras does not seem reliable enough.

On August 11, Xiaomi presented the flagship smartphone Mi 10 Ultra, released specifically for the company's 10th anniversary. The device received a 6.67-inch OLED screen, a Snapdragon 865 chip, 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal memory, a camera for four lenses with a resolution of 48, 48, 12 and 20 megapixels. The cost of the device in China was 5299 yuan, or about 59 thousand rubles.
