Roksolana Pidlasa raised important issues in Davos/author's facebook
The topic of food security is global. Economists emphasize that the world is on the verge of a serious food crisis. Many countries will face starvation due to the fact that Russia attacked Ukraine. I also spoke about this at the panel of the World Economic Forum Responding to Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine.
Russia artificially creates a catastrophe
Ukraine is one of the largest food producers in the world. African and Asian countries are highly dependent on our exports.
The Russians are creating a humanitarian catastrophe not only in Ukraine, but all over the world. They are doing this on purpose so that the world will feel hungry and come running to buy Russian grain.
They are blocking Ukrainian seaports. The grain we harvested last year is blocked in Odessa, Berdyansk and Chernomorsk.
Even in cities that are not temporarily occupied, Russian warships make it impossible for commercial ships to move.
How to stop the Russians
There are several options for how the world can respond to these actions. We talk a lot with different trade organizations.
There have already been similar precedents. For example, Ocean Shield is an operation (against Somali pirates – Channel 24) carried out in the Gulf of Aden, where NATO convoys were escorted by merchant ships.
Another option is weapons and anti-ship missiles for Ukraine. Then we could resolve the issue of deblocking Ukrainian ports on our own.
It's time to act
It is important to understand that we must already act. Because the situation is constantly getting worse.
If last year's harvest is blocked, then farmers may not harvest this year at all.
Russia is purposefully destroying stocks fuel in Ukraine, not only to prevent us from refueling our tanks, but also to disrupt the sowing season.
But in the end, all the panels (in Davos – channel 24) with the participation of Ukrainians come down to one message – Stop Russia Now. Supply Ukraine with heavy weapons, impose tough sanctions and don't let them escape.
