British intelligence said that the wives of mobilized Russians held perhaps the first public street protest after their state’s invasion of Ukraine. This rally took place on November 7 in Moscow.

The British department noted that protesters gathered on the central Theater Square in the capital of the aggressor country and unfurled banners. The wives demanded that their men be taken away from the front line.

Russian women took part in the first rally against mobilization

British intelligence emphasized that since February 2022, videos of Russian wives and mothers online protesting against the conditions of service of their loved ones appear on social networks every day.

However, according to the department, Russia's draconian legislation has so far prevented military relatives from uniting in opposition to the Putin regime, as soldiers' mothers did during the Afghan war in the 1980s.

The police dispersed the protest on Teatralnaya Square in a matter of minutes. However, the instantaneous demand of the protesters is noteworthy, intelligence officials said.

They emphasized that the wives of the Russian conscripts apparently did not want to endure the unlimited duration of combat deployment of personnel without rotation. Yes, Russian women are increasingly continuing to mobilize as the Russian army is not viable.

Rally of Russian women against the mobilization of men

  • In the center of Moscow on November 7, a group of wives whose husbands were mobilized in the fall of 2022 gathered for a rally. The women demanded the safe return of their loved ones home and improved conditions of service.
  • It is noteworthy that a couple from Vologda recorded a video where they talk about the terrible situation in which their husbands found themselves, sent to the Donetsk region without proper equipment and training. Unfortunately, two Russian soldiers were killed during the offensive and ten more were injured.
  • In addition, Russians are planning to organize larger protests, one of the key dates may be November 19. Demonstrations are expected to take place in more than 20 regions of Russia, including the Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk regions. Meanwhile, rallies in Moscow and the surrounding area are planned for a later date.
