Forward of the Norwegian national team and Manchester City Erling Haaland was recognized as the athlete of 2023 in the World Sports Star category according to the BBC.

The footballer helped the city residents achieve a treble in the 2022/23 season, winning the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup. He also scored 52 goals in all competitions during the season.
Noted that no player has scored more goals for an English Premier League club in a season.

Last year, this nomination was won by the captain of the Argentina national team and Inter Miami, Lionel Messi, who was not included in the shortlist this year.
