Windows 10 introduces an uninstallable browser

by alex

Microsoft has begun to force the installation of Edge browser on all Windows computers. This is reported by HotHardware with reference to the company's materials.

When an update with the number KB4576754 is received, a new version of the Microsoft Edge browser is forcibly installed on the user's computer. Journalists have noticed that it is impossible to cancel the installation of Edge – the program appears in the Start menu and on the desktop. At the same time, the update removes the familiar Internet Explorer browser for Windows users, transferring all its bookmarks and other information to Edge. The message says that the browser is forced to install for operating systems versions 2004, 1909, 1903 and 1809.

According to journalists, not all users liked the appearance of the new program. In particular, the owners of licensed copies of the OS are not satisfied with the fact that the new application is built into the system and cannot be removed. The only way to opt out of deploying a browser to your computer is to turn off Windows 10 automatic updates.

In early September, Microsoft explained why it is impossible to remove the Edge browser and the My Phone program from the operating system. According to the company's engineers, embedded applications are part of the Windows ecosystem, so uninstalling them can compromise the integrity of the OS. Microsoft previously announced that support for Internet Explorer 11 would end in August 2021.
