Will there be a cold snap in Ukraine in the near future: forecasters' forecast

Ukraine is being hit by a wave of intense heat. Thermometer readings in many regions are rising to levels that are significantly higher than comfortable. Such weather not only creates significant discomfort in everyday life, but can also seriously affect the well-being and health of people, especially the elderly, children, and those with chronic diseases.

ICTV Facts asked a forecaster from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center whether there will be a cold snap in Ukraine in the summer of 2025 and whether rain should be expected in the near future – read more in the article.

Cold snap in Ukraine: should we expect it or not?

Forecaster of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Natalia Ptukha noted that in the near future, quite contrasting weather conditions will be observed in Ukraine.

Now watching

In particular, the western regions will be under the influence of atmospheric fronts, even a local cyclone, which will entail a decrease in temperature and rain. But the southeast will remain with a minimum amount of precipitation, in a hot, hot air mass of tropical origin from the southern latitudes.

As for the temperature, on Thursday (July 10) the temperature indicators will be as follows: in the western, Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions, significant rains are expected, and in Zakarpattia and Prykarpattia – heavy rains and thunderstorms.

“The temperature at night in these regions is +12-17°C, and during the day only 15-20°C, so there is no talk of heat,” says Natalia Ptukha.

As for Zhitomir and Vinnytsia regions, the temperature values will be slightly higher. If you move eastward, you can expect +21-26°C during the day.

The remaining territories remain practically without precipitation. Rain is possible only in the territories that can be affected by the atmospheric front from the west of the country.

In particular, short-term light rains may cover the western regions of Kyiv, Cherkasy and Odessa regions. The temperature here will fluctuate between +18-23°C at night and +29-34°C during the day.

— Moving eastward further to the southeast, one can see that in the Sumy and Poltava regions, intense heat of +35-38°C continues to reign. That is, there will be no cooling in these regions of Ukraine in the near future, — the forecaster emphasized.

Will there be a cold snap in Ukraine on July 11-12?

Natalia Ptukha notes that in the western regions and on the left bank of the country, there will be short-term rains with thunderstorms in places. That is, the atmospheric front will weaken and shift somewhat towards the left bank. The remaining territories will remain without precipitation.

The temperature in the western, Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions will be: at night +10-15°C, and during the day +18-26°C.

The east and southeast of the country will have temperatures of +21-26°C at night (we can say that this is a tropical night), and during the day there will be intense heat of +35-38°C. In other areas, +14-19°C is expected at night, and +25-30°C during the day.

— It can be said that there will be a very strong temperature gradation. Various temperatures are observed, so it is impossible to predict exactly when to expect a cold snap in Ukraine. In one region there will be heavy precipitation, while in another there will be intense heat without rain, — the forecaster notes.

However, on July 13-14 (on the weekend) in the western regions and on the left bank short-term rains and thunderstorms may still be observed, and in the rest of the territory there will be no precipitation. The temperature at night in most regions will be +13-19°C, and during the day +27-33°C.

On July 14 in the western regions +22-26°C, in the south and east of the country at night +19-25°C, during the day there is intense heat +35-38°C.

And only in the Luhansk region on July 13-14 there may be extreme heat – about +40-41°C.

In conclusion, we can say that cool weather is expected in the west of the country (July 10-11), then the temperature indicators will level out and will be quite comfortable. In the south, the temperature will remain quite high until the end of this week and at the beginning of next.

How to protect your health in the heat

On hot days, it is extremely important to know how to act correctly to protect yourself and your health from the negative effects of high temperatures.

Tips to follow:

  • Stay cool. Try not to go outside unless necessary. If possible, stay indoors with air conditioning or ventilation. Keep windows closed during the day and open them in the evening for ventilation.
  • Drink enough fluids. Drink at least 1.5-2 liters of water per day. Avoid alcohol, coffee drinks, and carbonated sweet products – they can increase the loss of water in the body.
  • Choose appropriate clothing. Wear light, light-colored clothing made from breathable natural fabrics.
  • Don't forget about headwear. Hats, panamas or scarves are a must when staying in the sun.
  • Reduce physical activity. Avoid strenuous exercise or outdoor training during the hottest hours (approximately 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). If you can’t avoid it, be sure to take breaks in the shade and drink water.
  • Cool your body. Take a cool shower several times a day or apply wet wipes to your wrists, neck, or forehead. This will help reduce your body temperature.
  • Monitor your health. If you experience symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, or confusion, these may be signs of overheating.

In this case, seek medical help immediately!
